Privacy Policy

This page explains what Calorilator ("we," "us," "this site") collects, how cookies and analytics are used, and the choices you have. If you only want the short version: calculations run in your browser, nothing you enter is sent to a server or tied to an account, none of your calculator inputs are ever sent to Google Analytics in any form, and analytics/advertising cookies stay off until you actively accept them.

Information we collect

There are no user accounts on this site, and calculator inputs (age, height, weight, and so on) are never transmitted to or stored on our servers — every calculation runs locally in your browser. A small amount of data is saved in your browser's local storage, on your device only: your light/dark theme preference, your most recent calculator result (so the header can show "Your plan" without recalculating), and, if you generate one, your current 7-day meal plan. None of this is accessible to us; it never leaves your device unless you explicitly share a link that encodes it in the URL.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use a small number of cookies, grouped by purpose:

• Essential: your consent choice, stored in your browser's local storage (not a cookie) so we don't ask again every visit.
• Analytics: Google Analytics (GA4), which helps us understand which pages and calculators are actually useful. The analytics cookie (_ga, roughly 2 years) is only set, and only actual usage data is collected, after you accept it — see "Google Analytics" below for exactly what that does and doesn't include.
• Advertising: Google AdSense, which may use cookies to serve and measure ads, including personalized ads if you accept them. This site is supported by advertising revenue — see About for how that works.

We use Google's Consent Mode, which means analytics and advertising cookies stay off by default until you actively accept them in the banner shown on your first visit. You can change your choice at any time using the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer.

Google Analytics

If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics (GA4) collects standard usage data — pages viewed, general location at the country/region level, device type, and how you arrived at the site — aggregated to understand site usage, not to identify you individually. We deliberately strip any query parameters from the page address before it's ever recorded, so a link to a calculator result or a shared meal plan (which encodes your inputs in its address to make it work as a link at all) is never sent to Google in that form — analytics only ever sees the plain page address itself.

We never send your calculator inputs to Google Analytics, in any form. Age, height, weight, body fat percentage, your calorie target, BMI, or anything derived from them are never sent as analytics data — not as a raw number, not as a category, not at all. The handful of custom events this site does send (for example, that the calculator produced a result, or that a meal plan was generated or downloaded) only ever carry broad settings you chose — your unit system, an activity-level category, a diet pattern, meals per day — never a number you typed in.

The main analytics cookie is _ga (roughly 2-year lifespan) plus a per-property companion cookie in the same _ga_* family. Neither is set, and Google Analytics is not requested from Google at all, until you actively accept — declining, or not deciding yet, means no request reaches Google in the first place, not just that no cookie gets set. Changing your mind later via "Cookie preferences" also actively clears any _ga cookies already on your device. See Google's Consent Mode documentation for background.

Google itself retains the analytics data we collect for 14 months (configured in our GA4 property settings) before it's automatically deleted from Google's systems. You can opt out of Google Analytics across every site that uses it, not just this one, with Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Google AdSense & ad personalization

If you accept advertising cookies, Google AdSense may use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites, and to measure ad performance. You can opt out of personalized advertising directly through Google's Ad Settings, or more broadly via the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page — both work independently of the choice you make in our own cookie banner.

Children's privacy

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone in that age group. Separately, the calculators themselves decline to compute results for anyone who enters an age under 18 at all, showing an informational message instead — paediatric energy needs differ enough from the adult formulas here that a real number would be misleading, not just a privacy consideration.

Your choices

You can accept or decline analytics/advertising cookies at any time via the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer, or block cookies entirely through your browser's own settings (which may affect how the site remembers your theme or an in-progress meal plan). Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over data collected about you — [region-specific rights language — e.g. GDPR/CCPA — to be added based on actual audience/jurisdiction before launch].

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that meaningfully affects how your data is handled, the "Last updated" date above will change and, for significant changes, we'll note it on this page directly.
